Nemo Bellafiore immigrated to the United States in 1919 at the young age of 19. Upon arriving in New York he was offered a job working on a ship transporting cargo south to Charleston, SC. He was suppose to work back to New York but he fell in love with Charleston and decided to stay. As an Italian immigrant he ran into discrimination at every turn. He also found himself finding luck with the ladies at every other turn. In an attempt to avoid some discrimination he decided to change his last name to Lovelady.
As time went on Nemo Lovelady realized he wasn't fooling anyone with his new last name. However, when he made and sold pizza from his apartment, people seemed to be much friendlier and accepting. He decided to embrace the pizza and opened his first pizza parlor and Nemo's Pizzeria was born.
A friend gave Nemo two long tables which created a social atmosphere he did not expect. As the business grew he saw people making friends and connections. His passion grew for pizza and friends and that passion has carried through for five generations. To this day we encourage our patrons to share a table and make some friends over a delicious Italian pie. Of course if you want your own table we have those too.
